There’s so many unsung heroes that have contributed to the success and happiness of so many. As for the McCune Community, we cannot possibly thank you all but please know that we couldn’t do it without you.

VOLUNTEERISM There are so many ways to serve at the Center. There are opportunities to read to people, help write letters, assist with outings such as concerts, dining out, swimming (yes, even swimming for our seniors(), dances at the Barn in Mills River, parties, or assist us in our library, answer the phones, serving meals in our dining room or visiting people. And this is just some of the volunteer opportunities. Call Lion Deniece, the Activity Director @ 828-702-2760 or our Volunteer Coordinator Jim Edgar @ 828-777-7973. Or we can both be reached at the Center’s number 828-669-8452. We have a semi-annual Volunteer Day and a volunteer recognition at our Thanksgiving Banquet.

SWANNANOA VALLEY CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES the Center received a grant of $5,000 to be used for medical purposes only. This grant is especially beneficial to the people insured with Medicaid. This program continues to decrease the benefits allowed, making it difficult for people to receive the medical benefits that they need. We will be able to purchase medical equipment, supplies, medications and other medical related items to improve quality of life for the people that reside with us.

LAKE LURE LIONS we are grateful to receive $1,250 from the Lake Lure Lions. They have donated to the center for years. These contributions to our center are a true godsend, helping us to provide for exceptional needs where otherwise we could not.
DISTRICT 31L this year again the generosity of those that donated to our district goals and contributed to the McCune Community are wonderful and we are so appreciative. Thank you each year for your generosity and kindness.

BULIS GRANT Again this year Karen Calhoun, Bess Owen and I met to plan how the $3,000 VIP grant for the residents of the center can best be used. Karen has provided for our VIPs for years; assuring that they are able to attend the Wellness Program, have specialized equipment allowing them increased independence. Thank you Karen Calhoun.
