Our Mission: In the spirit of Lionism, to serve the needs of the blind and to enhance the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of all residents with independence, freedom of choice and dignity in a home-like environment.

Bulis Grant Again this year the Bulis Foundation through Karen Calhoun has provided we with a $1,000 grant to benefit the visually impaired and disabled with the Blue Sky Wellness Program. We’re so grateful to this wonderful woman and her foundation for their ongoing support and kindness where it is most needed.

Easter Celebration The center had its 13th annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31st. We had over 2,000 eggs with 8 different age groups winning bulging, yummy Easter baskets. Donations of candy, food and time were sincerely appreciated. Many thanks to the Davidson River Lions, Haw Creek Lions Club, Bryson City Lions Club, Weaverville Lion’s Club, Terry Vess, Samantha Gallman and her Leo Lions of Owen High School, Kim Rice, Louis Atchison, Leah Graff, Shirley Smith, Sam’s Club, Deniece & Nick Ogle, Joyce Laws, Frances & Jim Coates, Tina Pack, Tianna Hall, Karen Mcneese, Kasey Davis’ friend and family, Justin & Wesley, Melba Banks, Pinkney Dalton, Victoria of the Montreat Softball team and many other McCune Lion volunteers.

State Convention the McCune Center will have a booth at the Lion’s state convention in Greensboro at the Marriott and can’t wait to get together with you. Stop by for our famous cookies (and they’re free!), our literature, and some great chances to win our raffle prizes. I’m looking forward to seeing you.

Volunteer Workshop is Friday, April 20th @ 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the McCune Center. Lion Jim Edgar, PDG, Volunteer Chairperson, is facilitating this excellent opportunity for us to learn more about the center, tour and fellowship with several of the Department Supervisors and the Administrator. Refreshments and fun will be served!

Volunteer Day Service Opportunity-Environmental is Saturday, May 5th @ 9 a.m. Please RSVP Lion Jim Edgar, PDG @ 828-777-7973 or email @ lion_jim-edgar@yahoo.com, or the center at 828-669-8452 email administrator@mccunecenter.org  if you can join us or have questions. We’ll plant bushes and flowers, fertilize, weed, mulch, and make our grounds beautiful! This is a great time to share the company of other people and really make a difference. We meet @ 9 for our continental breakfast and have a cookout lunch. The fellowship at this event is one of my very favorites. Bring your friends and come help us and join in the fun.

Camp Dogwood- Please help us send our visually impaired to Camp Dogwood. A beautiful camp in Sherrill Ford, NC designed especially for the blind and owned by the Lions of North Carolina. We have 8 campers and 3 caregivers that hope to go. Your support makes this possible for our VIPs. Caregivers are $175 and campers are $125. Send your donations to Marjorie McCune Community, 101 Lion’s Way, Black Mountain, NC 28711. Any questions call Lion Deniece @ 828-702-2760.
